Anatomy of your Wedding Invitations

Like so many aspects of planning your wedding, writing the text that will appear on your wedding invitation is all about figuring out the proper rules. There is also an etiquette and certain ideas built on traditions that can make things even more confusing. If you are planning a same-sex wedding, the wedding invitation format will be different.

It truly has been a whirlwind time heading into spring this year which included many collaborations on styled shoots with many talented wedding vendors from the State of Maine. In particular, I was thrilled to be invited by Fausto of Blue Elephant and Laurie of Laurie Andrews Design to participate in a gorgeous styled shoot and after party for the first open house at Beech Hill Barn!

Mastering the R.S.V.P (Reply cards)

I recently read an article in the New York Times about Queen Elizabeth’s Party Planner, Lady Elizabeth Anson.  For many years she has not only been the “right hand woman” to Queen Elizabeth’s elegant parties, but to many other celebrities both wild and proper. The article was truly interesting, down to the little details of handling the arrangements of a room to setting the tone with invitations.

Reflecting back on Beswoon 2016: Southwest Bohemian Inspired Room

Last summer when I first launched Lauren Rachel Design and decided to create custom wedding invitations, I had the pleasure of meeting Adrienne Horty, one of my first connections in the wedding industry. Before we met one day for coffee, I learned a little bit about Adrienne and her business, Refinery Events. I was especially curious about her annual wedding show Beswoon. After finding her website and investigating the cleverly named Beswoon event, I wanted to know everything I could about this unique wedding show. After meeting and speaking with Adrienne, I knew that I wanted to participate in the next Beswoon event in 2016.

Calligraphy for your wedding invitations

I’m often asked if I can do hand lettering and/or calligraphy for my custom wedding invitations. The answer is yes and I enjoy the rich history and uniqueness of the art form.  I’ve always favored the stylization of calligraphy and letterforms, especially as I began to study it more in-depth at college. I was fortunate during my early college years to learn both skills in ink and utilizing the computer. That study gave me extensive practice in the form and function of the artistry. Since the 19th century, calligraphy has changed dramatically to what is most popularly known as “modern calligraphy”. The number one thing I’ve learned and what I love most about modern calligraphy is that there are no rules.

Why you should hire professionals for your wedding

Any wedding, big or small can and will be stressful. Even the coolest cucumber can have a moment of panic on their big day. Some of the strongest elements any professional will bring to your event will be the expertise and experience necessary to successfully execute your wedding tasks. From wedding planners and photographers to custom invitation designers and caterers, this is our profession. You should consider confiding in us to help you with your wedding day.

Often a lack of cash flow can contribute to the decision of not investing in a wedding professional.  Perhaps your second cousin, twice removed, is available at the very inexpensive price of “free”. That doesn’t mean they are the right choice. When it comes to your big day and the elements that make it less stressful for you, “free” most often doesn’t pay off.

5 Reasons why I love being a Maine wedding invitation designer

In honor of Valentine’s Day, I thought it would be fun to share some of the reasons why I love being a wedding invitation designer in Maine. While my background isn’t rooted directly in the wedding industry, I’ve always loved the things that I do that aligned with the wedding industry in one way or another. My natural abilities in art from childhood through college led me to study illustration, painting, calligraphy and paper, and all of these closely connect to my attraction to wedding invitation design. Even as a child I was picking out palettes of crayons to use in coloring books. I was always excited by all the little details of birthday and friend parties. It seems now only natural that I would be drawn to custom wedding invitation design.

Elegant and Striking Winter Palette Ideas

I am often drawn to many different printing techniques as well as unusual color palettes. One the most versatile printing options available is silk screen printing. I enjoy using this type of printing when I want to do an eye-catching palette on a dark paper. The ink is more vibrant and thicker and it stands out. Below are some of my favorite winter inspired palettes using dark shades as a base color for your paper.
