Anatomy of your Wedding Invitations

Like so many aspects of planning your wedding, writing the text that will appear on your wedding invitation is all about figuring out the proper rules. There is also an etiquette and certain ideas built on traditions that can make things even more confusing. If you are planning a same-sex wedding, the wedding invitation format will be different.

Reflecting back on Beswoon 2016: Southwest Bohemian Inspired Room

Last summer when I first launched Lauren Rachel Design and decided to create custom wedding invitations, I had the pleasure of meeting Adrienne Horty, one of my first connections in the wedding industry. Before we met one day for coffee, I learned a little bit about Adrienne and her business, Refinery Events. I was especially curious about her annual wedding show Beswoon. After finding her website and investigating the cleverly named Beswoon event, I wanted to know everything I could about this unique wedding show. After meeting and speaking with Adrienne, I knew that I wanted to participate in the next Beswoon event in 2016.

Calligraphy for your wedding invitations

I’m often asked if I can do hand lettering and/or calligraphy for my custom wedding invitations. The answer is yes and I enjoy the rich history and uniqueness of the art form.  I’ve always favored the stylization of calligraphy and letterforms, especially as I began to study it more in-depth at college. I was fortunate during my early college years to learn both skills in ink and utilizing the computer. That study gave me extensive practice in the form and function of the artistry. Since the 19th century, calligraphy has changed dramatically to what is most popularly known as “modern calligraphy”. The number one thing I’ve learned and what I love most about modern calligraphy is that there are no rules.

Why you should hire professionals for your wedding

Any wedding, big or small can and will be stressful. Even the coolest cucumber can have a moment of panic on their big day. Some of the strongest elements any professional will bring to your event will be the expertise and experience necessary to successfully execute your wedding tasks. From wedding planners and photographers to custom invitation designers and caterers, this is our profession. You should consider confiding in us to help you with your wedding day.

Often a lack of cash flow can contribute to the decision of not investing in a wedding professional.  Perhaps your second cousin, twice removed, is available at the very inexpensive price of “free”. That doesn’t mean they are the right choice. When it comes to your big day and the elements that make it less stressful for you, “free” most often doesn’t pay off.

Elegant and Striking Winter Palette Ideas

I am often drawn to many different printing techniques as well as unusual color palettes. One the most versatile printing options available is silk screen printing. I enjoy using this type of printing when I want to do an eye-catching palette on a dark paper. The ink is more vibrant and thicker and it stands out. Below are some of my favorite winter inspired palettes using dark shades as a base color for your paper.

The Maine Wedding Vendor Network: A Wealth of Talent!

Back in mid-September I was extended a lovely invitation to participate in a November Wedding Vendor Networking event by Maria Northcott of A Sweet Start. I could barely contain my excitement at the opportunity to be in a room with the many talented individuals that make up the Maine wedding industry. I immediately responded to the email and within 12 hours had signed up with anticipation of the event in November.

As a participating vendor, I was given the opportunity to contribute my paper and calligraphy skills to the materials needed for the event such as food labels, table cards, calligraphy signs, a custom stationery suite and an “I Spy” game-board.  Maria continued to curate a stellar group of Maine wedding vendors from across our state to form the #MeetinghouseMeetup group. Below is a list of all the people I had the opportunity to work with for the event.

A Couple's Perspective : The Grandy's Wedding Day

I had the pleasure of working with a couple from Wilmington, Delaware named Hari and Mike Grandy.  They were married on September 26, 2015 here in Maine at the Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport.

I originally met Hari and Mike in 2011 at my sister Carly's wedding.  They were in perfect harmony with each other and I could tell even then that their relationship was a lasting one.  It was wonderful to hear from Hari a little over a year ago when she and Mike became interested in having me help them design their wedding invitations and

Day-Of materials.  The following is a composite of my conversations with Hari throughout and after the process.

Inspired by Nature, Fall Wedding Palette Ideas

I am a New England girl at heart.  I was born and raised in Vermont and have lived in Maine for the last 10 years.  One of the strongest reasons I have decided to stay in the northeast is that I love the change in seasons and I especially love the fall.  The air is crisp and clear, the ground crunches with leaves underfoot, and there are pumpkins everywhere!  The rich and vivid colors make a picturesque backdrop to any wedding. Autumn is an undeniably beautiful season and a wedding at this time in New England would provide a rich palette of colors in a beautiful location.  Below are some stunning palettes to consider when choosing colors to match the natural fall foliage for your fall wedding.
