5 Reasons why I love being a Maine wedding invitation designer
In honor of Valentine’s Day, I thought it would be fun to share some of the reasons why I love being a wedding invitation designer in Maine. While my background isn’t rooted directly in the wedding industry, I’ve always loved the things that I do that aligned with the wedding industry in one way or another. My natural abilities in art from childhood through college led me to study illustration, painting, calligraphy and paper, and all of these closely connect to my attraction to wedding invitation design. Even as a child I was picking out palettes of crayons to use in coloring books. I was always excited by all the little details of birthday and friend parties. It seems now only natural that I would be drawn to custom wedding invitation design.
This one seems kind of silly but I think it an absolute must when working as a custom invitation designer. One of the many things I love about my job is that I get to envision a couple's dream and help create vision for the invitation design of their big day. I’m a very personable and approachable person and I try to relate to my clients. It is important that I’m able to do this with couples because their story will be seen through the results of my design. The invitation is one of the first opportunities that family, friends and guests will get to experience your wedding. From black tie formal to barnyard hoedown, you should expect guests to get a sense of your vision which in turn builds excitement from your invitation design. It is important that I make you and your guests happy with the first appearance of your wedding invitation.
Why would the “details” be so important to the designer? They are the essential elements of your story and its my business to find them, develop them and present them. They are the building blocks of how the couple pictures everything coming together. The details could be little things that you and your partner love and want as part of your wedding day. They can include many things such as games, colors, cocktails, or even a special dessert that says this day is yours.
I’ve always been fond of paper, even when sitting in front of a computer all day in the advertising field. After a long day of computer design, I would jump at the chance to choose a paper or a finish for the projects I was working on. I love the inspiration I get sifting through all the books and sample collections. I find great satisfaction in the research effort necessary to find the right paper to use for a custom invitation. I have had the opportunity to network with some amazing vendors that will even print on fabric and/or wood. Invitation design has come a long way. There are many unique ways to make your invitations special utilizing paper or alternative techniques.
I’ve said this before and I will say it again. The Maine wedding vendors that I’ve met, networked and associated with over the last 8 months have been incredible. They have confirmed my decision to enter the field of custom designed wedding materials, and that Maine is the right place to be! There is such a wealth of talent in Maine and especially the wedding industry. Sharing this talent and exploration with couples is something I look forward to into the future.
My love for weddings does not relate to the “my uncle so-in-so, who wants a great big meal, drink at the open bar and get crazy on the dance floor with all the kids”. I truly love weddings from the moment of “will you marry me?” to the “I do’s”. It is filled with so much love and excitement. It is a truly amazing, once in a life-time experience that will be shared with your partner and remembered and shared for generations to come. I want to make it that much more special and stress free for my couples by trying to experience the “love” of your wedding in every detail that makes it yours.
